Falko Fritz
Falko Fritz started historical fencing in 2007. His main interests are the longsword and the long knife (langes Messer) according to Lecküchner and other treatises. He introduced the langes Messer training at Hammaborg in the beginning of 2009, focusing on interpretations of Lecküchner's commentaries and their application to free sparring. His studies of the langes Messer also involve mechanical calculations for historical sword reconstructions and translating parts of Lecküchner's book to modern German and English.
Before starting fencing, he trained the whitewater kayaking group at Clausthal University of Technology for five years and was active in many other sports activities including mountainbiking, ultimate frisbee and kendo.
Andreas Ståhlberg
Andreas Ståhlberg is a long time martial arts student. It all started with Karate (Wado Ryu) some 20 years ago, when the then frightened 14 year old entered his first dojo. Since then Andreas has studied various martial arts of the eastern variety and enjoyed them immensely. In 2003/4 he sought out the practice of HEMA and immediately fell in love. Andreas is now entirely devoted to the interpretation and practice of HEMA. He is currently focusing on the medieval, German tradition of the Kunst Des Fechtens, with a principal interest in unarmoured longsword, wrestling and dagger.
Reinier van Noort
After doing sports fencing for about two years, Reinier van Noort became involved with HEMA in 2005, when he joined the Orde der Noorderwind. He trained with Noorderwind until late 2010, and was increasingly involved as a trainer since 2007. During this time, Reinier headed the project on translating and interpreting Paulus Hector Mair's treatise section on sickle fighting. Additionally, from 2005-2008 Reinier also trained with Zwaard & Steen, and since 2008, he has trained Kadochnikov Systema. In January 2010, Reinier started rapier fencing (following Bruchius' Scherm- ofte Wapen-Konste), and he founded the School for Historical Fencing Arts (School voor Historische Schermkunsten - SHS).
Matt Galas, US
HEMA Godfather
Jeff Tsay, US
Jeff Tsay is currently the head of Forte Swordplay, a group devoted to the study of WMA/HEMA and focusing on actively training the German tradition of Kunst des Fechtens. He has a sketchy martial background, having studied several unarmed and armed Eastern arts before finally being seduced by the hidden mysteries of the Western traditions. By day, he is an engineer and project manager; but by night, he regularly becomes a WMA fanatic -- and the father of a precocious 3-year old. Jeff is currently very tired. But, nothing will stop him from presenting his new work on the Rose and the combined longsword techniques from the Wallerstein family of manuscripts (Durer, Berlin A 83, Rast, and Mair).
