"Sweden's Free Fencers is a martial arts association composed of members of different Swedish HEMA groups" that performs at public events and holds classes in schools where we show and tell about how the European Martial Arts tradition looked like in the late 13th up until the early 20th century. This martial arts tradition is today called Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA).

All swordsmen, take a moment and mourn the passing of Philippe Errard, a good friend and a brother-in-arms.
  Philippe died on Friday, 18 November 2011, of lung cancer. He was an excellent fencer, a dedicated HEMA researcher, and a warm, wonderful human being. He will be sorely missed by his many friends in France, Europe, and around the world.   Read More...

Good performances by the Swedes in Rybnik

Axel Pettersson(GHFS) and Hans Jörnlind (Gamla stans fäktförening) attended an event
in Rybnik, Poland.
They held a workshop, sparred and participated in one longsword tournament and a cutting competition.
In the tournament, Axel was the winner in his group and reached quarterfinal, where he was eliminated by
Michal Pajda (PL). Hans was eliminated by Marcin Surdel (instructor of Vectir). The longsword tournament was eventually won by Jan Chodkiewicz of Fechtschule Gdansk with Maciej Zajac of ARMA Warsaw taking second place.
In the cutting competition, the Swedes reached both the first and the second place
(first place by Hans and Axel took the second place). The wrestling competition was won by Tomek Maziarz of Ringschule Wroclaw with Jan Chodkiewicz of Fechtschule Gdansk taking second palce.

Den 26/2 kl 12:00 håller GHFS årsmöte i lokalen. Motioner skall skickas till ordförande Juilia Ströms mail, julia.ghfs@gmail.com, senast den 5/2. Alltså tre veckor innan mötet.

Alla medlemmar är välkomna och har rösträtt, så se till att få in medlemsavgiften i tid.

historisk fäktning - kampsport och riktigt bra träning

Är du sugen på att träna kampsport? Bor du i Göteborg med omnejd? Då har du hittat rätt! Vi erbjuder en fantastiskt utmanande träning av historiska kampformer i Göteborg.

GHFS är en förening för träning av historisk fäktning, kampsport och strid i Göteborg. Vi startade vår verksamhet 2003 och bedriver idag en modern skola för fäktning med huvudfokus på strid med långsvärd, svärd och bucklare, stav och spjut, sabel och medeltida brottning. Våra kampidrotter är baserade på autentiska historiska tekniker och källor. Den här typen av kampsport eller kampkonst kallas emellanåt HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) och är ett samlingsnamn för olika typer av kampkonster med europeiskt ursprung.

Om det låter intressant så är GHFS träning något för dig. Våra kunniga instruktörer leder eleverna på vägen mot ökad förståelse och kunskap om fäktning och strid med historiska vapen samtidigt som du bygger upp din fysik, kondition, koordination och självkännedom. All träning sker i en vänlig och respektfull miljö där alla är välkomna, vi tar gärna emot både  tävlingsinriktade och motionstränare och har idag medlemmar mellan 15 och 65 år.

GHFS är en förening som är en del av ett internationellt sammanhang och det erbjuds varje år ett flertal resor till evenemang för fäktning och kampsport runt om i Europa och världen, där vi träffar andra utövare, tränar, tävlar och får nya intryck. GHFS är idag den mest framgångsrika klubben i världen inom den snabbt växande tävlingsscenen inom HEMA och ligger i framkanten inom både forskningen kring källmaterialet vi baserar träningen på och utvecklandet av metoder för modern träning. Ta chansen att träna med några av dom bästa fäktarna i världen!

I våra lokaler tillhandahåller vi gym, motionscyklar m.m.  för våra medlemmar.
